Glamping it up in Abelana Game Reserve

Abelana Safari Camp recently had its first professional photo shoot, courtesy of local pro photographer Lance van der Vyver, officially revealing its “look” to a waiting world. A combination of old-world African influences, organic modern styles and plush, rich textiles, the camp takes its lead from the surrounding wilderness it calls home. The décor  has rich, earthy colours and bold prints to complement and lift the surrounding tent canvas and hardwood flooring of the main areas and guest tents. Dark leather, natural wood finishes and colonial touches blend together to create a cosy, welcoming atmosphere in the lounge and dining area, with traditional Nguni skins and grey jute rugs adding texture and warmth. In the tents, crisp white cotton linen is offset by sumptuous scatters with hints of coral and terracotta and plush faux fur throws in a deep mustard yellow on metal-framed beds with deep, firm mattresses. The en-suite bathrooms are sleek and modern, with glass shower doors and contemporary vanities and canvas director’s chairs grace the private decks. Director’s chairs surround the fire pit, with mood lighting provided by paraffin hurricane lamps. The result is an authentic, luxurious vibe throughout the camp, with furnishings that look amazing without sacrificing practicality and user-friendliness – always a challenge in the heat and dust of wild Africa. Who said camping was boring?!
